Soulja Boy Destroys Ice T!! LOL

On my radio show today I asked people what they thought about Ice T saying Soulja Boy had destroyed Hip Hop??

Hip Hop died long before soulja Boy popped up on the scene. US Hip Hop is a prime example of how mass producing the same types of songs over and over again can kill a genre’s individuality. All the songs sound the same these days.

When I first saw the soulja boy tune, I thought it was a joke. Surely no-one with a mental age over 12 years appreciates this rubbish ! It’s embarrassing.

I have seen Hip Hop / Rap grow and evolve since the 80’s. For me it hit it’s creative / intellectual peak in the early to mid nineties. Then it became far too commercial. With the exception of a handful of players, everyone wanted to jump into it for the cash.

There have been far too many artists going platinum on their reputation alone, even though their albums have been complete rubbish. I would bet that most of the people commenting on here saying that Ice T should keep his mouth shut, are probably too young to even remember 1 song he did and would obviously not know how it felt to hear those songs at that particular time.

The only creative form of Hip Hop / Rap these days is from the UK. The sound is fresh but needs to be marketed correctly. US rap is well on the way to becoming redundant in this country, so promoters need to keep their eyes open for the right moment.

Hip hop needs other branches or platform as to categorize new genres that promotes versatility in this movement…We do owe a lot to the old skool for establishing gansta gun tooting rap, conscious lyrical rap, politically engaged rap, breakdance music, turntablism and mad mixing, yeah and we progressed since to pionneers in orchestral type of shows a la Kanyeasy or Jay-z Fade to black concerts or other MTV unplugged, …Now soulja boy deserves the title of king of the younger dancefloor crazy scene…!!! Quote me! hip hop is the universe…Ice T don’t “playa hate”! and loosen up unless you wanna confuse your own…

I have been a long time admirer of Ice T., and i have only started to familiarise myself with Soulja Boy and his music listening to 1xtra….Me being a music producer, I know music changes with the times no matter what style it is .For insatnce, you would’nt have heard certain tracks a decade ago what you are hearing now, it just changes…sign of the times.I must confess i’m not a big fan of Soulja Boy and i must also say his music does annoy me, but i hold high admiration for him and what he has achieved ….He has worked hard with a dedication that is lacked by so many…..I take my hat off to him.So, for Ice T to express such comments, regardless whether he or others think its true it should not have been said ……Hip Hop is forever changing…its another era ….to me its all good.respect Steve Augustine aka Kd Sounds

I never ever liked that soulja Boy tune and his lyricals r the worst. When i first heard that tune i never wanted to hear it again and i always mute when it comes on, its pure cheesy wanabe hip hop finkin he all that when he a nobody, sick of that boy.

I’m A Big Fan Of Old Skool Hip Hop, Thats where it all began which is why i can see Ice Ts point because if you compare the likes of soulja boy to nwa, eric b and rakim, krs1 (list is endless), theres no comparison, but then again hip hop has changed dramtically its nowhere near being as raw as it was, more hip pop than hip hop.

Im wiv Ice-T on this, dat SouljaBWOY needs to find a lyric! Yeh da music’s live but da lyrical content is straight rubbish Although i would’nt go as far as sayin da yout has single handedly killed hip hop dats a bit much but he sure as hell aint helpin it & dats real!!

Coming from someone who’s moved genres and now is an actor, I don’t think he’s in a position to comment on what is happening in the genre these days. Hip-hop used to be party music way back before the moniker of hip-hop, when it was called disco-rap. Soulja boy may be pretty poor lyrically, but he represents a part of hip-hop which has become forgotten in the last 15 years of Gangsta Rap orientated sales. One could argue that Ice T and his ilk killed the party vibe of hip-hop by rapping about violence. More to the point this is likely to be some form of promotion for Ice T now that he’s out of the limelight.

I prefer soulja boy every other word isnt the N word hes more professional Ice T is just swear after swear and no beat. Soulja boy shoudlnt be gettin full of himself though because he is nothing new either.
